Our Story
Greetings From

Our Founder
I’m thrilled to preview my company, Somato Textiles, at BDNY ahead of our official launch in January 2025.
Throughout my 25-year career, I’ve had the privilege of working with many top textile companies in various roles. As a passionate entrepreneur with a history of business ownership, I often dreamed of creating a new type of textile company rooted in creativity, community, value, and transparency. I hesitated due to the substantial capital required to bring my vision to life. As a single mom to two young teens, I realized it was time to bet on myself. I used my home equity to fund Somato Textiles, to show my kids that hard work and determination pays off.
My journey to secure financing began with traditional banks, which, to my surprise, had largely ceased investing in startups. I then began pitching to investors, venture capital groups, and private equity firms, holding countless meetings. Through my research, I learned that in 2023, $117 billion was allocated to startups by venture capital. Only $3 billion went to female founders, with even fewer opportunities for minority-owned businesses. Many traditional capital funds required an improbable 10x return, so I happily walked away from those conversations.
At Somato Textiles, our core values guide every decision. Most of our collection is priced under $40 per yard, and we pay textile artists on every yard sold. We’re committed to sourcing 50% of our collection from North America. 100% of our woven textiles can be recycled after their lifecycle by a third-party vendor—because it’s simply the right thing to do. We encourage clients to source textiles closer to their manufacturing locations. When possible, Somato will ship mill-direct to reduce our carbon footprint.
As a founder, I prioritize giving back, and all employees will have profit-sharing. I am especially passionate about empowering all employees by offering opportunities to learn new skills, thus improving their financial futures. Somato’s wellness program supports our employees both in and outside the office.
For those who have been fortunate to enjoy success in the hospitality industry, I believe it’s time to invest in each other. People are our greatest investment, so let’s lead by example.
Thank you for your support as we strive to create something meaningful with Somato Textiles.
Warm regards,
Kim DiMarco
